This week we will begin our final unit of the year which is about balls. We will be comparing balls, counting balls, making balls and playing with balls. We will also be reviewing the letters of the alphabet with the afternoon class and we will be doing a special letter project with the morning class. Here are our plans for the week:




Monday

Today the morning class will be making flowers, finger painting and do a counting and sorting activity. The afternoon class will also make flowers and do ABC stations. The story today is Raindrop Plop.



Tuesday

Small Group A.M. - letters A, B and C

Small Group P.M. - letter stations we will so an activity to practice identifying words with the same beginning sound, we will do our letter Z papers and we will practice printing letters on our write and wipe cards

Large group – morning - discuss concept of bigger and smaller afternoon – “Laughing Leo” we will be creating silly names using a word that starts with the same letter as each child’s name

Small Group – morning – letters D and E afternoon – stations same sound, letter sorting, magnet letters (the kids will use magnet letters to copy words related to balls and their names), and letters in play dough

Friday

The morning class will sort balls from other things that are round. The afternoon class will practice determining what would come next. We will also play with balls. Today’s story will be The Cat in The Hat.

This week we will continue to talk a little bit about recycling. We will also talk about butterflies, and review shapes and environmental print. Thank you to all of you who have signed up for parent teacher conferences on Monday, April 23. If you have not signed up yet please do so. Here are our plans for the week:
Monday
Today we will talk about symmetry. We will make a butterfly with 2 wings that are exactly the same. We will also review shapes and practice our coloring skills. Our story today is The Very Hungry Caterpillar. After we read the story we will make a caterpillar and the children will dictate to me what their hungry caterpillars might eat.

Tuesday

Today both classes will be working with position concepts. The morning class will play a game where they have to move an animal to the place described (for example put the bear under the chair). The afternoon class will complete a paper and play position word Bingo. Our story today is Go Dog Go.

Welcome back! I hope you all had a wonderful Spring Break. This week we will continue talking about recycling. We will also do several bunny themed projects. Here are our plans for the week:
Monday:
Today both classes made a bunny using there handprint. We also talked about positional concepts as we created this project. We spent some time playing with play dough, during this time we tried to increase our language skills by using describing words. Today’s story was The Tale of Peter Rabbit.
Tuesday:
? of the day – Should we throw litter out of the car window?
Large Group – Discuss any exciting things that the kids want to share about Spring Break.
Small Group – Sequencing
Art – Today we will be making fuzzy bunnies using a paper plate and cotton balls.

This week we will continue talking about reducing, re-using and recycling. The important topic this week is where the garbage goes. We will read a book about recycling and watch a dvd about what happens to the garbage and recycling once it is picked up from our homes. Here are our detailed plans for the week:
Monday:
Today both classes did a color mixing activity. We read the book Mouse Paint and then we used finger paint to mix primary colors to make secondary colors. This activity was great color naming practice for those who needed it and for the others it was a science/sensory activity.
The morning class also did some sorting and sang Old McDonald and finally we sorted pictures of animals into 2 categories, those that live in the zoo and those who live on a farm.
The afternoon class was introduced to this weeks letter, which is W and did some alphabet activities.

Today both classes will focus on counting and numbers by doing several hands on counting games. The morning class will do a counting project with the numbers 1-5 and the afternoon will do a counting paper.

This week will be a busy one in Preschool! On Tuesday we are excited to celebrate the impending arrival of Miss Ashly’s baby boy. Remember, Tuesday is an Early Dismissal day and so the 4 year old class is coming to school in the morning from 9:00 to 10:45. All 3 year old students and all parents are welcome to attend the shower at 9:45. Wednesday is February 29th or Leap Day, since this is an “extra” day we are going to enjoy it by having special activities and a special treat for snack. Here are our specific plans for the week:
Monday
Today the morning class will work on categorizing objects and beginning cutting skills by snipping straws. We will then use our snipped straws as beads for a beautiful necklace. The afternoon class will work on number identification/printing of the numbers 6-9. We will also work on classifying objects by playing What Goes Together?

Tuesday

Today we will do some coloring practice while we prepare for Miss Ashly’s shower.

This week we are very excited for our Valentine’s Day Party! A special thank you too all of the parents who have volunteered to make this a special day for the kids. Happy Valentine’s Day everyone, here are our plans for the week:

Monday:
Today we will be doing some Valentine’s Day sorting and we will also be making a special Valentine’s Day project. Our story today is Valentine’s Cats.

Tuesday:
Today we will be focused on celebrating a special day with our friends. In addition to having our class parties, we will be passing out Valentines notes to each of our friends and talking about what it means to be a good friend.

Wednesday:

This week in our clothes study the topic is where do we get our clothes. On Thursday our question of the day is about describing a favorite shirt. It would be helpful if your child wore his/her favorite shirt on Thursday to make it easier to describe it. This week we will also incorporate some Valentine's Day activities and rhyming activities. Here are our plans for the week:
Monday
Today both classes will read Clifford's First Valentine's Day and then we will make Clifford entirely out of hearts. The morning class will also work on counting hearts and coloring. The afternoon class will work on position words by playing position word bingo and then completing a worksheet.
Tuesday
Today we will not have a question of the day or small group time due to Vision and Hearing screening. Instead we will do table top activities related to math and early literacy as kids are coming and going to get their eyes and ears checked.

Today the morning class will work on counting, colors and shapes. The afternoon class will be reviewing letters and playing alphabet bingo. Both classes will be reading Nine Naughty Monkeys and doing a Valentine's Day art project to hang in the classroom.

This week we will continue our study of clothing. The concept this week is features of clothing. We will talk about size, shapes and patterns and buttons/ fasteners. In our discovery center this week we will be doing different measurement activities. Here are our plans for the week:
Monday
A.M.
Today we will be talking about comparing sizes. We will look at real objects and talk about small medium and large. Next we will sort stickers by size. Then the children will sort buttons by size. Our story today is Big and Little.
P.M.
Today we will introduce our letter of the week which is N. We will also talk about small, medium and large. The children will sort buttons by size and complete a paper where they have to color balloons the correct color according the their size. We will also read Big and Little.
Tuesday

Large Group – talk about Golidlocks and the Three Bears and how the bears are small medium and large, this ties into our clothing study because clothes come in many different sizes
Small Group A.M. and P.M.- Bigger Than, Smaller Than and Equal To – children will break up into 4 small groups with a teacher and we will build block towers and compare them by size. This activity will also incorporate counting and fine motor skills as we build the towers.
During choice time today each class will do an activity based on comparing sizes. The morning class will make a Goldilocks picture and the afternoon class will complete a paper where they have to color the correct item. We will be doing these “worksheet” type activities from time to time to help prepare the children to do similar tasks in Kindergarten.
